All the News That's Fit to Download...
The Vanderbilt Televisions News Archive at Vanderbilt University is a world-famous repository of "more than 30,000 individual network evening news broadcasts from the major U.S. national broadcast networks: ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN, and more than 9,000 hours of special news-related programming including ABC's Nightline since 1989." Until recently its searchable index, which includes timing indications, the names of all contributing reporters and, in many cases, detailed abstracts of the stories themselves, was available to the public at no charge. Now that it is accessible only by subscription, the University Libraries have purchased campus-wide access, which includes free access to online video streams of all CNN news stories. (Videotape copies of others may be ordered on loan for a fee.)
